Mulch – Humble Hero
Allow us to veer from our usual Veg Star of the Month to celebrate the humble mulch.
While the country is gripped by one of the toughest droughts in recent memory, mulch could (and should) be your new best friend. A good layer of organic mulch will go a long way in reducing the amount of evaporation from your soil, ensuring that your precious plants don’t dry out.
Summertime Salad
With a variety of rich colours and nutritional benefits, this salad is more like a salsa than a traditional salad. Served on a bed of salad greens, dressed with a lime vinaigrette and accompanied by a crusty chunk of sour dough bread it makes for a crisp vibrant cool mid-day meal.
Pea and broad bean humus with toasted ciabatta
Method
Boil the peas and beans in a pan of salted boiling water for approximately 3 minutes. Drain and cool under cold, running water, set aside to drain thoroughly.
