It isn’t often that you come across a gadget that really revolutionises gardening. I mean, people have been growing food and plants for millennia, so there are really only so many new developments that can be made.
That said, allow me to introduce you to the Magic Seeder! This handy gadget is by far my personal favourite. Not only does it minimise seed wastage by allowing you to sow one seed at a time effortlessly, but it just makes sowing seeds (especially small seeds) an absolute breeze.
Speaking of breezes – ever tried sowing tiny seeds in the presence of even the mildest wind? Then you’ll understand why this gizmo is invaluable (that’s right, Cape Town, I’m looking at you).
Now, there is a little bit of practice required initially to get the hang of it, but once you’ve found your groove (pun intended) you’re all set for a lifetime of easy sowing.
What you’ll need:
A planting area that is ready and primed
Your choice of Franchi Sementi seeds
Magic Seeder
Step 1:
Once you’ve prepared your area and are ready to get cracking, create some furrows in the soil using the back of your hand.

Step 2:
Load up your Magic Seeder with your choice of seeds. The Magic Seeder works great for small and larger seeds.

Step 3:
Hold your seeder over the soil and push down to release a seed. Finer seeds will require you to use the seeder at an angle so as not to release too many seeds at once. Larger seeds can be dispensed in a more upright position.
HINT:
Have the inner dispensing slot facing you – that way you can see the seeds sliding down into the slot. Every now and then, give the seeder a little shake, to re-align the seeds inside.
It really does work, and works well, just with a little practice to begin with. I keep one Magic Seeder in each seed packet, succession planting is made easier – I only have to grab the Seeder and away I sow!
